Freida from the day she was born was having allergic reactions. She was born congested and hiving. By six weeks old more and more foods were bothering her.
At 16 months Freida had been rushed to the hospital many times needing an Epi and only had 8 solid safe foods.
Our family went cross country for extensive medical care for Freida and her siblings not once but twice by the time Freida was three years old. Freida was diagnosed with multiple food allergies- the worse being to cocoa bean. During both trips the doctors used the word full bucketer many times. If you think of a bucket under a spiget thats full of water- that is Freida's immune system. Any little drop and she spills right over into anaphylaxis. Over the years Freida had many very serious anaphylactic reactions with no known trigger in addition to her known food allergy reactions.
At five years old Freida was also diagnosed with with Tourette Syndrome, OCD, and ADHD. Over the years she has outgrown many of her true food allergies even passing peanut and tree nut challenges. As of fall 2013 Freida is still allergic to dairy, eggs, cocoa bean, and sesame. On Thursday Dec. 12, 2013 Freida was diagnosed with Idiopathic Anaphylaxis. After a number of very severe anaphylactic reactions with no known cause and ruling out a number of other issues her doctor came to this diagnosis. The doctors do not know how often her body will just randomly go into anaphylaxis. Everything about this is really unknown. All they do know is that that bucket of histamine sits filled to the tippy top and is overfilling frequently. Also, when she is exposed to a known allergen her reaction is more severe than the average person. The doctor told us that we can live in a bubble and she would still be having these reactions.
Through all of this Freida spends time giving to others and collects Chanukah cards and Passover macaroons for US Jewish soldiers far from home during the holidays. Freida, who was an outgoing and lively 7 year old, spends a lot of time lonely and scared now though. With the help of new medication and our hope of Bravo joining our family, we truly do look forward to her future and what it will bring.
