The ASDi 2011 Paw of the Year Award is presented for outstanding allergy-aware customer service. The Marriott Residence Inn went above and beyond in their efforts to research and understand the complex needs of the food-allergic community. Then through extraordinary attention to detail, they worked with the staff of ASDi to develop and implement various food, housekeeping, and other controls that combined to create a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for those suffering with food-induced anaphylaxis. By compiling a notebook with all of the labels of the food items served on the breakfast and dinner buffets, they provided critical information without which families with anaphylactic members would not have been able to safely eat. By removing items containing peanuts from their snack-stand, posting signs alerting other guests to the presence of individuals with peanut-induced anaphylaxis, and conducting extra deep-cleaning of the rooms, the hotel was made as safe as practically possible.
The efforts of the management and staff of the Marriott Residence Inn are in the best traditions of relevant and respectful customer service and reflect great credit upon themselves, the Marriott Residence Inn, and the Marriott Corporation.
